How the offer comparison works
Each offer is converted into base salary and employer super. If a figure is entered as an inclusive package, the calculator backs super out of the total. It then adds the expected bonus, gives paid leave a transparent daily salary value and subtracts recurring work or commuting costs.
The adjusted figure is not accounting income. It is a comparison score designed to stop different package structures from being compared as though they are identical.
How to compare offers properly
Use a conservative bonus estimate. If a bonus is discretionary, entering zero shows whether the base offer still makes sense. Include parking, public transport, fuel, tolls, uniforms, professional registrations, equipment and any recurring childcare changes caused by the role.
After comparing the numbers, separately score flexibility, commute time, job security, workload, management, progression and whether the role improves or damages future earning capacity.
What the calculator cannot value
The tool does not calculate personal income tax, HELP repayments, salary sacrifice, vesting conditions, equity value, redundancy risk, overtime, penalty rates or the subjective value of remote work and flexibility. It also values leave at a simple daily salary rate even though leave is normally already embedded in an annual salary arrangement.
Use the leave figure as a comparison adjustment only, especially when offers provide different leave allowances.

Frequently asked questions
Why is leave given a value?
It makes differences in paid leave visible. The value is a comparison adjustment, not an extra cash payment.
What does package includes super mean?
It means the quoted total contains both base salary and employer super, so the spendable base salary is lower than the headline package.
Should I include a discretionary bonus?
Use zero or a heavily discounted estimate unless the bonus is contractual and realistically achievable.
Does the tool compare tax?
No. Use the take-home pay change calculator after identifying the likely taxable salary for each offer.
