How to use it
- Start from the genuine pre-sale price, not a crossed-out figure that was rarely charged.
- Calculate the dollar saving and the final price; a large percentage can still be a small saving on a low-priced item.
- Compare the final unit price and avoid buying extra solely to “save” more.
Worked example
A $120 item at 25% off falls by $30 to $90. If a competing item normally costs $88 and meets the same need, the discounted item is still not the cheaper option.

Can two discounts be added together?
Not usually. Successive discounts are applied one after the other, so 20% off followed by 10% off is a 28% total reduction, not 30%.
Does the biggest discount mean the best value?
No. Compare the final price, quality, pack size and whether the item would have been purchased without the promotion.
